EXTREME FAR NOTH HA GIANG TREKKING TOUR





DAY 1: EXTREME FAR NOTH HA GIANG TREKKING TOUR: Lao Cai – Regional Triabal Market - Bac Ha – Ban Pho Valley (B/L/-) EXTREME FAR NOTH HA  GIANG TREKKING TOUR

Early arrival to Lao Cai station from 05.30 to 06.30 depending on different train. Freshen up, breakfast in a local restaurant.
07.30 leave Lao Cai for a road transfer to one of the regional markets as following: Coc Ly(Tue), Cao Son(Wed), Lung Khau Nhin(Thur), Can Cau(Sat) and Bac Ha(Sun). Enjoy about 2 hours joining the local ethnic peoples such as H’mong, Zao, Tay, Phu La…experiencing the festive atmosphere and lively activities as well as understanding of the regional spiritual life.
Transfer to Bac Ha Town let and check in Sao Mai hotel around noon time. The Bac Ha market on Sunday takes place right in this charming town. Lunch break.
Warming up for aprox 2 hours in the afternoon by cycling 12 km up and downhill around the Ban Pho Valley.

DAY 2: EXTREME FAR NOTH HA GIANG TREKKING TOUR: Bac Ha – Can Cau – Ta Cu Ty (B/L/D)

Breakfast and check out Sao Mai hotel at 08.30 am.
Start biking from hotel following the motor way 3 km to the center of Lau Thi Ngai Commune.
Cross the stream by suspension bridge and then ejoy an easy ride on a single dirt track along a stunning valley for 4 km before EXTREME FAR NOTH HA  GIANG TREKKING TOURchallenging 5 km up steep hill trail to Lung Phin.
Follow the motor way again for 2,5 km and then turn left to another single dirt track for 22 km, passing through several small hamlets of the H’mong peoples to Can Cau market place.
Arrive at Can Cau at about 4.00 pm. Stop biking and then transfer by road for 45 minutes to Ta Cu Ty.
The trail today runs mostly through populated valleys which featured of terraced rice paddies and cornfields on steep hills sides as well as chances to meet local tribal peoples such as Flower H’mong, Zao and Tay.

DAY 3: EXTREME FAR NOTH HA GIANG TREKKING TOUR: Ta Cu Ty – Ban Ngo – Nam Dan (or Gio Pass) (B/L/D)

Breakfast and say good bye to hosting family at 08.30.
Biking along a single track which form a half circle around the Ta Cu Ty mountain range and is a combination of short lose rocky part and dirt trails with some stream crosses for 21 km from Ta Cu Ty to Dan Khao Village of Ban Ngo Commune via several villages and hamlets of the Nung, H’mong and Zao ethnic peoples.
Lunch break at Dan Khao, a newly settled-down village.
There are 3 choices for afternoon biking from here:
Opt 1: Continuing along the same track for 9 km on high elevation of Ta Cu Ty range to home stay at Nam Chien Village with ½ hour visiting to the interesting rock fields with EXTREME FAR NOTH HA  GIANG TREKKING TOURmessages of the ancient peoples carved on many big rocks at Nam Dan Village. Arrival at home stay at about 3.00 pm.

Opt 2: Making a short loop for about 2 hours along a narrow and steep single dirt track from Dan Khao Village to home-stay at Nam Chien Village, Nam Dan Commune:
- 5 km downhill to the suspension bridge 1.
- 2,5 km uphill and then 2 km downhill, then 1,5 km uphill again to the motor way.
- 3 km paved road to home stay at Nam Chien.
Opt 3: Making a longer loops for nearly 3 hours along a steep and narrow single track from Dan Khao Village to Che La Commune and then continue to home-stay at Nam Chien Village, Nam Dan Commune:
- 5 km downhill to suspension bridge 1
- 6 km uphill to the junction in Che La Commune.
- Turn right and gradually getting downhill for 7 km to suspension bridge 3.
- 2,5 km uphill again from the bridge 3 to home-stay.

Note: If choosing to stay overnight at Gio Pass site in stilts house amongst thick forest, please add 7 km biking or transferring along the motor way up steep hill.

DAY 4: EXTREME FAR NOTH HA GIANG TREKKING TOUR: Nam Dan (or Gio Pass Site) – Nam Nhung – Khau Rom – Nam Choong (B/L/D)

Breakfast and leave home stay in Nam Chien at about 08.30 am.
Warming up by following the EXTREME FAR NOTH HA  GIANG TREKKING TOURgood motor way for 14 km through thick rain forest from home-stay over the Gio Pass to the southern side of the.
Turn left to a single dirt track for 12 km mostly steep downhill through tea farms, terraced rice paddies, bamboo forest, passing some isolated hamlets of the Zao and H’mong ethnic of Nam Nhung and Khau Rom Villages to the main road which run along the Nam Ly River.
Following the main road for 3 km to a suspension bridge and cross the Nam Ly River to the sounthern bank.
Take the single dirt track uphill 5 km through Phieng Lang and Quang Thuong Villages of the Red Zao and then 3 km on the hill side with not too much up and down before challenging 5 km downhill along a narrow and steep dirt track to Nam Choong Village.
Arrive at the Nam Choong local tourist site near the hot mineral spring at about 5.00 pm.

DAY 5: EXTREME FAR NOTH HA GIANG TREKKING TOUR: Nam Choong – Cao Son – Ho Thau Commune – Panhou. (B/L/-)

Breakfast and leave Nam Choong at about 08.30 am.
Start biking along a narrow single track from Nam Choong for 6 km to the center of Quang Nguyen Commune.
Then following a single dirt track agradually uphill along the Nam Ly River through the Trung Son Village for 10 km. Challenging 4 km down and up very steep trail to cross the upstream of Nam Ly River to the EXTREME FAR NOTH HA  GIANG TREKKING TOURother bank. Bikes may have to be carried for about 30 m.
Following a larger single track uphill for 5 km to Chien Thang Village and then gradually downhill for 6 km to the center of Ho Thau Commune.
Picked up and transfer 47 km for 1,5 hour to Panhou eco-site for staying overnight.
Arrival to the Panhou at about 5.30 pm.

- After a coffee break, the road gets up and down hill for 60 km through the mid-land region of Hoa Binh province passing over the two famous passes: The Cun and the Thung Khe. - Transfer by road for nearly an hour to Nam Bung. Paying visit to a small village of the Black Zao for an hour. - Breakfast and departure at about 08.30 am. Challenging a 4 hours hard trek uphill the Khau Pha Pass which was famous in the first Indochina war for a fierce battle filed in 1952. Once leaving home stay, clients will take a easy path for an hour and then the pass gets narrower and tougher towards the top of the pass, passing several hamlets of the Black H’mong. Picnic lunch along the trail.
- Reaching to the top, great view opens wide overlooking down the lush rain forest. Picked up for a road transfer downhill for 25 km to Mu Cang Chai. Enjoy many stops along the way downhill to enjoy marvelous scenery of the terraced paddies.
- Continue by road for 50 km to Than Uyen Town let and arrive at the local guest house here in mid afternoon, check in and free to walk around this quiet town. Day summary: Transfer 50 km // Trekking for 4 hours // Home stay.

DAY 7: VIETNAM NORTHWEST ADVENTURE TOURS:  Than Uyen – Tram Ton Pass - Sapa (B/L/-)

- Breakfast and then leaving Than Uyen at about 08.30 am. Just after 20 km driving, the group will have a break for an hour to visit the Tan Uyen market to break local atmosphere in this small RHYTHM OF VIETNAM NORTHWEST town let. Then continue the road trip to Binh Lu with several stops along the way to visit villages of the Thai, Lu and Lao ethnic peoples. Continue along the newly built road for an hour to Chu Va Village of the Red H’mong located at the foot of Hoang Lien Mountain pass on the bank of clear stream. Take a quick look at this village before driving uphill the magnificent Hoang Lien Son Pass for 1,5 hours with some photo stops.
- Reach to Tram Ton Pass, stop for the panorama view of the Fanispan mountain and valleys. Turn left for a large rocky path uphill for 2 hours to Hang Da Village of the Black H’mong which sits at the height of 1,800 m overlooking down the Muong Hoa Valley. - Continue trekking along the trail on the high hill side for an hour and then gradually getting down to the Pho Village which consists of about 15 houses of the H’mong, scattering on rocky hill side.
- The trek process downhill all the way to Muong Hoa with a crossing to the other bank, then walking uphill for ½ hour to Ta Van Giay Village. Arriving to the home stay in mid afternoon and the rest of the day is for free walk around the village, enjoying marvelous landscapes in late afternoon light. - Start trekking at about 09.00 am. The trek today probably will be the most interesting so far. The trail sneaking on high mountain side along the upstream part of the Muong Hoax River right along the foot of Fansipan. Cross the river by suspension bridge to the other side and from here it gets easier through the narrow valley for another 2 hour to Cat Cat waterfall. Group will have long lunch break here by the side of the river, enjoying traditional music, song an dance of the local ethnics played by a local band here.
- Picked up and transfer uphill to Sapa town in mid afternoon, freshen up and relax. -

Day 2: NORTHERN VIETNAM ADVENTURE AND TREKKING TOURS: Hanoi Package Tours(B/-/-)

 Today we spend a full day exploring Hanoi. The first stop is Ho Chi Minh Complex containing the mausoleum of the nation's founder Ho Chi Minh, the Presidential Palace and the Ho Chi Minh's house on stilts. Close to this complex is the One Pillar Pagoda, whose origins date back to the foundation of city. We follow it with the Temple of Literature, which is well known as the first university of Vietnam, the History Museum with an excellent collection of artifacts illustrating the Vietnamese history and the outlaying Ethnologic Museum. This gleaming mansion is dedicated to Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups. Afterwards we drive back to the town center , stopping at the Tran Quoc Pagoda and Quan Thanh Temple. They are major highlights set by the beautiful West Lake. We see these sights before continuing to the peaceful lake of Hoan Kiem with its sacred temple. In front of this lake is the famous water puppet theatre where we will see a fantastic performance.

Day 3: NORTHERN VIETNAM ADVENTURE AND TREKKING TOURS: HANOI — DUONG LAM VILLAGE TOUR TO MAI CHAU (B/L/D)

In the morning, we start from Hanoi to Duong Lam village, a purely agricultural village of the Northern Red River delta where still preserve many hundred-year-old houses. It will be your unique experience as you walk along tiny ancient alleys; visit Mong Phu Communal House in Mong Phu hamlet - the only hamlet whose original village entrance gate remains intact, dedicated to national heroes. Have the opportunity to bike in the village and have some talks with the locals in their ancient houses by visiting the ancient houses of Mr Lam, Mr Ha and Mr Huyen. After that, we continue walking to visit Mia Pagoda (other hamlet in Duong Lam village), is built in 15 th century and admire 287 statues of all sizes, among with are famous sculpture such as the statue of Buddha in the Himalayas and the statues of the Eight Vajra Deities. Then visit Ngo Quyen temple and Phung Hung temple, places dedicated to two national heroes Ngo Quyen and Phung Hung.
Lastly, we will go back a local family to enjoy your special lunch with Vietnamese foods in an ancient house.

Upon leaving Mai Chau we travel by roads to Xa Linh. Once arriving we embark on an easy walk past the stunning mountain backdrop and the various roadside villages, home of the Hmong people. They are almost farmers living from their slash and burn tradition however it is very interesting to learn their old age culture. At the end of the walk we meet with our waiting vehicle and continue driving across the undulating terrains of tea plantations and the many sleepy villages to Son La. Along the way we visit the Black Thai ethnic minorities. They belong to the same Thai ethnic group, but are different from the White Thai in Mai Chau by their tradition and costumes.

Heading out of town Muong te minorities in Lai Chau - Vietnam we venture into the upstream of the Da River with the next stop being Muang Te. Today we continually wind our way though a high mountainous region to Sin Ho for an interesting exploration of the Red Hmong, Kho Mu and Dao people. The overland trip to Sin Ho is occasionally suspended due to the restriction of the local authority or road conditions especially in wet season. Upon leaving Sin Ho we follow the local tracks to Tam Duong. Day 11: NORTHERN VIETNAM ADVENTURE AND TREKKING TOURS: Sapa Adventure Tours - Bat Xat - Lao Cai (B/-/-)

Heading out of town we wind our way towards Bat Xat. The weather is rather cool in place therefore we should bring enough warm clothes. We arrives in Bat Xat after two hour drive and enjoy a rough walk to explore some off road hamlets which are usually littered with mountainsides and terrace rice fields. These villages are populated by the Phu La, Dao and Giay ethnic minorities who are very poor, but have an interesting local culture and a colorful  Bat Xat village in Sapahistory. Today we have plenty of time to explore these rarely seen areas before travelling to Lao Cai. This fast growing border town has not much to see but it is still a necessary stop for next day activities.

Day 12: NORTHERN VIETNAM ADVENTURE AND TREKKING TOURS: Lao Cai Adventure Tours - Muong Khuong - Bac Ha ( Sunday) (B/-/-)

The following destination of our trip is Muong Khuong. This remote hill town is famous for the colourful Sunday market. There are various ethnic minority groups including Dao, Phu La, La Chi and Tay but the dominants are the Flower Hmong people. These ethnic minorities are recognisably distinct by their dress and come in town for trade on every Sunday. On arrival we stroll around this colourful congregation to see the different hill tribe groups and their amazing trading way. Upon leaving Muang Khuong we continue our journey to Bac Ha and spend the rest of day for some trekking options. There are several footpaths but we walk from Hmong King's former residence through some corn fields to Ban Pho village where they make the potent local maize alcohol.

Day 13 : NORTHERN VIETNAM ADVENTURE AND TREKKING TOURS: Bac Ha - Sin Man - Hoang Su Phi - Ha Giang Adventure Tours (B/-/-)

Upon leaving Bac Ha we begin our overland adventure to Ha Giang Town. This day is a real challenge as we travel along a winding road with many uphill and down hill drives but views of terraced rice fields littered with rustic houses are nothing short of spectacular. The local tracks pass by Can Cau before crossing over a pass and dropping down to Sin Man Town. En route we encounter the Nung Ing, Tay, Red Dao and La Chi people. They are just some of the many hill tribe groups who have settled in Sin Man and Hoang Su Phi regions. An early morning start to drive towards Ba Be National Park. These back roads are a great way to explore the real Vietnam. We see very few other travellers, mostly rural dwellers who are just as interested in finding out about our lives as we are of theirs. There are several stops en route to visit the Hmong, Red Dao, Dao Tien and Tay ethnic minorities in Bac Me, Bao Lam, Bao Lac, Tinh Tuc and catch some wonderful photographs. The overland trip from Ha Giang to Ba Be is very long and difficult at times especially in wet season therefore we need to bring along our spirit of adventure.

Pick up at Lao Cai Train station, freshen up, breakfast and then transfer to Bac Ha town let. HA GIANG THE NEW DESTINATIONCoffee break and then on to Lung Phin. Trek starts from Lung Phinh along a large path for 1,5 hour to Ta Chai 1 village of the Phu La ethnic, one of the smallest groups in Vietnam with just about 6,500 inhabitants. It is interesting day today to trek through the region of the famous H’mong tribal people who are well-known for unique way of living on highest mountain with slash and burn agriculture in the past. Breakfast and depart at 09.00 am. Trekking along a narrow foot path up hills and down narrow valleys for 2 hours to Then Van Village of the H’mong, explore the village, paying visiting to several H’mong families who live in thick clay-walled houses. Continue trekking for nearly 3 hours to Lung Cai, another Flower H’mong village situated on high mountain side and over HA GIANG THE NEW DESTINATIONlooking down the Chay River. Walk around the village in late afternoon for discovery the unique way of life. After breakfast at local home stay, the trek today leads through beautiful sightseing on narrow footpath to the H’mong village of Then Van. Discover the daily life of the local people. Breakfast, walk around the village for watching morning life and leave Lung Cai at 09.00 am. Trekking along the narrow foot path through corn fields and Once leaving Lung Cai, following the trekking route to Hoang Nhi Pho through rice paddy and maize plantations 2 hours to Hoang Nhi Pho hamlet. Paying visiting to some H’mong family here before lunch. Afternoon trek takes almost 3 hours towards Ban Gia Vilage through a very quiet region while the trail winds up and down on steep mountain side, offering stunning scenery of narrow valleys dotted with H’mong houses. It’s a great days, today for enjoying breath-taking landscapes of the Chay River massif and Ban Gia valley! The trek commences from home-stay along a large path on high mountain side for 2 hours to Khe Phang village and slightly down hill for 1 hour to Nan Ly Village where the H’mong and Mung live together. Paying visiting to local homes, village school and lunch break. Continue trekking about 2 hours through the lush farm land of the Nan Ma Commune in the afternoon and arrive to home stay at the center of the commune in mid afternoon. Walk around the communal center and market place for breathing of local life. Dinner and home stay with a H’mong family.

Leaving Nan Ma after breakfast, the beautiful trail almost down hill for the whole morning through terraced rice paddies and lush fruit farm to Nan Lung village of the Nung peoples who will be warmly at welcoming visitors with their curiosity at seeing tourists for the first time. It is a relaxing day, today. Leave Coc Pu late after breakfast for an easy walk 2 hours to Coc Pai town let of Xin Man District. Walk round the market place for an hour and then transfer by road to Hoang Su Phi. Check in the local hotel, lunch and then free to relax for the rest of the day.

DAY 7: HA GIANG THE NEW DESTINATION Hoang Su Phi - Tung San – Hop Nhat (B/L/D)

Breakfast and depart at 08.30 am. Walk along the upstream of the Chay River 5 km to Tan Tien, then follow a foot path winding on mountain side of the Tay Con Linh mountain range gradually uphill for the whole days. Passing and paying visit to villages of the Nung and Zao ethnic peoples. The trek today also offers magnificent scenery of the Tung San Valley which runs from the foot of Tay Con Linh Mountain to the Chay River. Arrive to Hop Nhat village of the Tung San Commune in mid afternoon, explore the village, meeting the Zao Ao Dai(Zao with long dress) and especially contacting the Co Lao peoples, one of the smallest group with only about 1500 individual in Vietnam. Dinner and home stay in a house of a Zao Ao Dai family, Ho Nhat Village.

DAY 8:HA GIANG THE NEW DESTINATION Tung san - Dan Khao - Cao Banh (B/L/D)

It is a great day of the trip today! Conquering the second highest mountain range in Vietnam. The Tay Con Linh Mountain range presents challenging to trekkers but at the same time offers probably one of the most magnificent and beautiful landscapes. High mountain, deep valleys with terraced paddies in thousands of shapes, thick forest, waterfalls with charming hamlets of tribal peoples doting here and there. Leaving home stay at 08.30 am. Trekking 3 hours a midst perfect nature surrounding uphill to the pass-top. Lunch break at a narrow passage called Heaven Gate. Descending for the whole afternoon along a larger path, passing through tea plantation and hamlets of the Dan Khao Vilalges where the H’mong and Zao live on highest elevation and the Nung and Tay live on the low land. Arrive to home stay at Cao Banh Village of the Black Zao peoples at about 4. Walk around for contacting locals.

The last trekking day with less challenging but no less interesting. Leaving Cao Banh for the trek downhill for almost the whole day along a dirt trail winding on steep mountain side which covered by thick forest and plantation and great view of the large valleys under the foot path with large HA GIANG THE NEW DESTINATIONand prosperous villages of the Tay living in stilt houses. At noon, the trek pass through Ban Trang, another village of the Zao which consist of about 25 houses surrounded by tea farm and palm plantation scattering on hilly land. Lunch break and descending the last portion of the tough trail to arrive to the large valley of Khuoi Hop Village. Paying visiting to the village, meeting the Tay ethnic peoples. Picked up in mid afternoon and transfer to Ha Giang. Enjoying a tip: Freshen up for an hour in the warm mineral water which comes from the hot spring in Thuong Son before arrival to Ha Giang Township. Check in hotel and relax. Dinner tonight is not included.
